Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris
Established in 1669 within the Académie Royale de Danse founded by Louis XIV, the Paris Opera Ballet is the oldest national ballet company in the world and the cradle of academic classical technique. The very vocabulary of ballet — codified in French — descends from this institution. The company performs principally at the opulent Palais Garnier, with larger works staged at the Opéra Bastille. Its rigorous hierarchy, culminating in the rank of étoile, is among the most demanding paths in the art form, and its school, the oldest in the West, remains a benchmark for classical training. The repertoire spans the romantic ballets born on this stage — "Giselle", "La Sylphide" — the Nureyev classical productions, and a distinguished line of contemporary creation, making the company a continuous bridge between ballet’s origins and its future.
