Boston Ballet

BostonCitizens Bank Opera HouseFounded 196363+ years of heritage

Boston Ballet was founded in 1963 by E. Virginia Williams, with early encouragement from George Balanchine, and became the first professional resident ballet company in New England. It performs at the Citizens Bank Opera House in the heart of the city. The repertoire is unusually broad for an American company: the Balanchine works that shaped its early identity sit alongside the nineteenth-century classics and a notable commitment to European choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe and Wayne McGregor. Its annual "Nutcracker" is one of the largest productions in the United States, and the affiliated Boston Ballet School is among the country’s most substantial training institutions.
