Bolshoi Opera
Опера Большого театра
The Bolshoi Opera shares the historic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow with the celebrated ballet, and is one of the central institutions of the Russian operatic tradition. Performing since 1776, it premiered and championed the great Russian operas of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Mussorgsky. The company is renowned for its powerful choral and orchestral forces and for grand productions of the Russian and international repertoire staged on the theatre’s magnificent main stage, restored in 2011. Alongside the Mariinsky in Saint Petersburg, the Bolshoi Opera defines the Russian operatic style — monumental, deeply expressive and rooted in a distinctive national school of singing.
