BirminghamBirmingham HippodromeFounded 194680+ years of heritage

Birmingham Royal Ballet traces its origins to the Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet, formed in 1946 as the second company of the Vic-Wells lineage. In 1990, under the direction of Sir Peter Wright, it moved from London to Birmingham — a decision that transformed both the company and the city’s cultural standing. Based at the Birmingham Hippodrome, the company is a custodian of the British classical tradition, particularly the Ashton and MacMillan repertoire, and Wright’s productions of "The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake" are among the most admired in the country. It tours widely across the United Kingdom, and remains closely linked to The Royal Ballet through their shared heritage and the Royal Ballet School.
